What Will Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony Do in Place of Attending E3?

The three biggest console makers, Microsoft for the Xbox, Nintendo for Switch, and Sony for PlayStation, may not be putting on a show for this year's E3 convention in Los Angeles. It's sad news for some seeing the convention skipped the entire event last year.

Missing E3

The event will be taking place from June 13th to 16th, but it seems that three big presenters won't be wowing the audience this year. It's not unusual for the three console manufacturers to miss out on the event as they have done it before.

Sony was also absent from the 2019 E3 convention, as well as the ones that happened after that. Although Microsoft announced that it will be showcasing its products this summer, also in Los Angeles, the company did not indicate that it would be for E3.

As mentioned in The Verge, Nintendo already has a platform that can spread the news of its releases without the help of E3, such as the Direct video presentations. With the upcoming game The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, they might want the attention focused there.

It has also been reported that E3 seems to be losing its hold in the industry, especially since more and more platforms are emerging where other publishers announce their big releases. Two examples are The Game Awards and the Summer Game Fest.

To make matters more competitive, Summer Game Fest's Twitter account just announced that its show will happen on June 8th, which is just five days before the E3 convention. This could possibly take away big announcements from E3, giving it less to show for.

Upcoming Game Releases for 2023

2023 holds a lot of cards for gamers. Nintendo already gave us Fire Emblem Engage this January 20th, and there is more to come. There's also Kirby's Return to Dreamland Deluxe, which is set to be released on February 24th.

Then there's the mentioned Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which will be released on May 12th. Pikmin 4 may also be released within the 2023 window, as mentioned in IGN. It's still not a guarantee, but it's said that the game is nearly done.

Sony, of course, will also be bringing in games that will fight for the top spot in the market. There's already a release window for Marvel's Spider-Man 2, which will launch on PS5 this fall of 2023. The game will show the duo of Peter Parker and Miles Morales.

Hogwarts Legacy is also sharing the spotlight as it is nearing its release. It won't be hard to secure huge sales since the franchise already has a huge fanbase to work with. Players will get to play as a student themselves in Hogwarts on PS5. It is set to release on February 10th.

As for Microsoft, there are plenty of exclusive games in its bag that are also to be released this year. Among those are Starfield, Redfall, Forza Motorsport, Replaced, Everwild, Fable, and The Last Case Of Benedict Fox, according to ScreenRant.
