Valve is Reportedly Working on a 'Game Notes' System — What is It?

Steam gamers might be in for a pleasant surprise as Valve is reportedly working on a highly-requested feature that will be available in the Steam library and on the web. Pavel Djundik, a full-stack developer and dataminer behind SteamDB, revealed in a tweet that "Valve is working on a 'game notes' system," which Steam users believe will allow them to leave personal notes or reviews in every game that they played.

Steam Players Could Have an Easier Gaming Experience Through Game Notes System

As reported by PC Gamer, this game notes feature will be similar to how gamers back in the day penned down notes on blank pages at the back of the game manuals. This time, with Valve's rumored game notes system, there will be no need to use a pen as gamers can simply add text notes, links and even screenshots from the game to serve as their guide later on.

It should be emphasized that Djundik's scoop can be interpreted in other ways. However, Steam players could not help but speculate that this is Valve's answer to a Steam feature request that has gained popularity over the years.

In 2019, a poster from a Steam forum raised the idea of allowing gamers to "take down notes within the Steam platform" that can be easily accessed when they need it in the game. This suggestion was welcomed by many members of the Steam community, which could have prompted Valve to turn this wish into reality.

There are many games that require players to remember a set of codes and numbers for a future quest. There may be instances where NPCs give out clues and directions that the players must follow. Therefore, their progress in the game is dependent on these details.

Some players may opt to jot these down on a piece of paper, although it will be a big problem once they lose this paper. With the possible game notes feature on the Steam platform, gamers will no longer have to worry about losing their physical game notes.

The available reports as of posting do not show how the game notes system would appear when it becomes functional. It is possible that the player's notes can be easily accessed by hitting Alt + Tab on the keyboard, although it is also likely that Valve is working on a more convenient way of displaying the personal notes in-game.

Upcoming Steam Client Update From Valve to Feature a Notifications Page

Aside from the game notes system, Djundik also hinted that the Steam platform will also have a notifications page that is "similar to the notifications page in the mobile app." The old VGUI elements of the Steam client, such as the outer shell, settings and server browser, are about to be replaced prior to the implementation of the new notification system.

There is still no confirmation from Valve regarding the next Steam update, whether it will contain the rumored game notes system or the new notifications page. Moreover, the release date of the next patch update is still uncertain.

For now, the only confirmed offering from Steam is the ongoing Spring sale, where you can get fan-favorite games such as Halo: The Master Chief Collection, Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire and DreamWild with up to 75% price cut. The Steam Spring sale will last until March 23.
