5 Shows on Netflix That Are Inspired By Historical Events

Netflix has a wide array of films and TV shows, and some of them are even inspired by the notable events in our history. While writers have taken creative liberties, they still show a lot of accuracy throughout the show. Here are a few that you might want to check out.

1. 'Peaky Blinders'

The show is set in the events after World War I. Although it mainly revolves around the main character, Thomas Shelby, the show is actually based on a real crime gang with the same name, Peaky Blinders.

The series will show you a glimpse of what life was like in an impoverished England in Birmingham. There's not much known about the gang in real life, but the writers have created an impressive narrative for the Shelby family as they gain money and power.

2. 'The Crown'

The drama series revolves around the life of the late Queen Elizabeth II. It depicts her early life up to the point that she ruled the United Kingdom. It also features several known members of the royal family like the current King Charles III, the Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip, and more.

Many of the major events that happened during the reign of the late queen, such as the Aberfan Mine disaster, the development of King Charles III's relationship with the Dutches of Cornwall, Camilla Parker Bowles, and so on. Although, it is expected that some of them are exaggerated for cinematic effect.

3. 'Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story'

Just as it was mentioned before, these stories are merely inspired by real-life events. While they ring with truths, a lot of the scenes in this show were fabricated. There are some key facts like King George III and Queen Charlotte having 15 children.

The engaging story tells of the beginning of the King and Queen's story shortly before they met and how they developed over time. There are time jumps to the "current" timeline where the original show "Bridgerton" takes place that shows the outcome of their story.

4. 'Narcos'

"Narcos" focuses on the life of the infamous Colombian drug lord. Some would argue that it is fairly accurate when it comes to the information that actually matters. Since there is some fiction sprinkled in there, one should not consider it as a docu-series.

According to Bustle, it's 50-50 when it comes to determining which are fact and which are fiction, but the timeline of the events of Pablo Esocbar's life was accurate. Even if there are inaccuracies, you will still learn so much about what really happened on the show.

5. 'Selena: The Series'

Selena Quintanilla Perez, more known by just her first name, rose to fame around the late 80s and the 90s. She was a Mexican-American artist who made a mark by singing Tejano music. Sadly for the pop star, her life led to a dark turn.

In a way, the show celebrates the life of the artist by showing what she went through to achieve much-deserved fame, only for her life to be taken by someone she trusted. There are negative reviews due to the casting of the main character, but the story itself has done her justice.
