Telegram is Launching Its Stories Feature for All Users

Stories have been a common feature in the major social media platforms. The idea started out with Snapchat wherein posts are a way for the platform's users to post a brief clip with a limited duration, and it has made its way to Telegram as well.

Telegram has become a popular messaging platform due to its user-friendly interface and end-to-end encryption security. As more people use the app, there have been requests from its users to add a Story feature, much like that of Instagram and Facebook.

Now, users can go ahead and post their videos. The Stories of their contacts in Telegram can be found above the chat list and folder, which is an expandable section. Upon viewing the story, it will take over the whole screen along with other buttons they can use to interact with it.

Users will be able to quickly tap for sharing, replying privately, or reacting to the story. Holding down the clip will reveal more reactions to choose from. By default, all the stories can be viewed, but the app allows users to hide stories from specific contacts as well.

Even though it is technically the same feature as the other platform, Telegram has more settings to offer its users. For instance, they can customize how long the Story will be available for viewing. The choices are 6, 12, 24, or even 48 hours.

More than that, users can edit the story even after it has been published. Normally, users will have to delete the initial post and start over when there's a mistake in their clip. Telegram allows edits for elements like visibility, caption, on-screen text, stickers, and more.

It also comes with a detailed view of statistics. Users can open the list and filter it based on contacts, recent views, or contacts who reacted to the post. It's even possible to search for a specific name to determine if they've already viewed the Story.

The dual camera mode also allows for capturing scenes from every angle, meaning that photos and videos can be creative with both the front and back cameras active at the same time. A small panel and the main screen can be assigned to either one.

As for the basic elements, the platform offers a powerful media editor in order to add texts, drawings, stickers, and tag a location. The four privacy settings to choose from when it comes to visibility are Everyone, Contacts, Close Friends, and Selected Contacts.

No Need for a Premium Subscription

Telegram is celebrating its ten years of operation boasting 800 million users globally. In celebration of that fact, they are releasing the Stories feature, which the company claims is the most-requested feature by its users.

According to Tech Crunch, it was initially for Premium users only. Even though it has been rolled out even to non-paying users, subscribers still have exclusive perks for Stories that others don't have such as Stealth Mode.

The Premium perk allows users to have their views erased from their contacts' stories when they open it within the past five minutes. It also hides what they will view for the next 25 minutes. Telegram CEO Pavel Durov was reluctant to add the feature at first but eventually listened to the requests.
