Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty Ending: Which is the Best One?

The Cyberpunk 2077 DLC is packed with twists and turns, along with new weapons, cyberware, clothing, characters, and more. Just as most expected, there are several endings to Phantom Liberty, both good and bad.

Subjectively, there are good outcomes, or at least one where you don't regret most of your decisions. Here's how you'll get the "best" outcome. This goes without saying, but there will be plenty of spoilers ahead.

Firestarter

The first pivotal decision you'll make will be in the mission titled "Firestarter." You'll join Songbird in accessing the machine to extract the Neural Matrix. Once she's done, you'll be presented with two choices:

  • Help Songbird escape | "I'm with you."

  • Help Reed Capture Songbird | "One more second."

The best option here would be helping Songbird. If you do, then you'll escape with her and help her with the next mission. This will lead you to the finale titled "The Killing Moon," where you'll also face tough decisions.

If you choose to use the ICEbreaker that Reed gave you, you won't be able to contain her. She will fall into a cyberpsychotic state brought on by the Blackwall virus, and it will result in the death of Alex. This path leads you to a mission called "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos."

The Killing Moon

Assuming that you'll take the advised option, then you progress to "The Killing Moon." You'll have to wait for Songbird to contact you, which might take a couple of in-game days. It's unclear if skipping time would help get there faster, but it's best that you do side quests to pass the time.

Once Songbird contacts you, you'll head to the lunar facility where she plans to go to the moon or "Luna." You'll find yourself facing the force of the FIA since President Myers is hellbent on getting her netrunner back, and Reed wants to save her without breaking any laws.

During the train ride, Songbird will admit that the cure can only be used once and that she feels guilty for tricking you. You will then be presented with three more choices, but they really just make up two outcomes.

  • Pick up Songbird | "Time to go, So Mi."

  • Pick up Songbird | "Wake the hell up."

  • Call Reed | "Reed'll take care of you."

If you choose to call Reed then, he will take Songbird to Myers and give her all the care that a government-back facility could give, or at least that's what they say. Songbird will be carried by Reed to an NUSA aircraft to whisk her away.

If you pick any of the other two, you'll try to help So Mi escape but will be confronted by Reed. You will then have more choices before you.

  • "Song's dyin'."

  • "Can't let you take her."

  • Holster weapon | "Take her, all yours."

The first and second options will lead to you having to kill Reed since he will not hesitate to zero you to take Songbird. If you do, you'll get an iconic weapon called "Pariah" and Songbird will leave and presumably cure herself using the Neural Matrix.

If you decide to holster your weapon, Reed will carry Songbird to the aircraft and the best medical experts that the NUSA can bring in will try to fix her. You'll also have three dialogue options.

  • "Wanna live on."

  • Got nothin' I want, nothin' you can give me..."

  • Just take 'er, don't want a thing from you."

If you say you want to live on, they'll provide you with access to doctors who can cure V. The other two options will mean that you'll have to resort to options that the base game had. However, getting "cured" might not be the best option.

The doctors are successful in disentangling Johnny's engram with V's, but that means that Silverhand will no longer exist. The operation also leads to irreparable damage to V's nervous system, so he/she can no longer chip combat cyberware or it'll lead to death.

The surgery took a toll on V as well, so much so that it'll be two years before he/she wakes up. As a male V who romanced Panam, you'll no longer have a relationship since your disappearance broke her. As a female V who romanced Judy, you'll wake up to Judy having moved on and married someone else.
