‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs’ Will Get a 4K Restoration Soon

Disney has been busy with several projects in the last few months to celebrate the Walt Disney Company's 100th-anniversary celebration. Aside from the upcoming release of its limited edition Blu-Ray DVD collection, the company also intends to release a 4K version of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."

Snow White in 4K

Although Disney has the capacity to create new films in the coming years such as its new hit "Elemental," the entertainment giant is taking the time to look back to its classics like "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" to create a 4K restoration.

The movie was the first-ever feature-length animated film that was released. It serves as a way to honor the classic that gave Disney fans the first princess, and the 4K version will be released on Disney's streaming service on October 16th, as per Gizmodo.

The efforts were made possible by having animation veterans work on the restored version such as the Walt Disney Studios Restoration and Preservation team, as well as artists from Walt Disney Animation Studios who also worked on restoring another classic, "Cinderella."

Included in those teams was animation artist Michael Giaimo, who worked on "Frozen" and the upcoming movie "Wish," as well as animator/director Eric Goldberg, who has worked on titles like "Pocahontas" and "Fantasia/2000."

Goldberg expressed that "the opportunity to help restore 'Snow White' was both an honor and a challenge." He added that at the very first Walt Disney feature, he and Mike Giaimo felt they owed a debt to history to get it looking as beautiful, and as accurate to the original colors, as they could.

Walt Disney Studios' director of restoration, Kevin Schaeffer also said that they are "incredibly excited to go back to Walt's original negative and use current state-of-the-art technology to restore this stunning classic to its original beauty."

Disney's Limited Edition Blu-Ray Collection

If you're an avid Disney animation fan, you might be interested in the company's upcoming release of a unique collection of animated films throughout the years. It comes as a box set that holds movies that were released between 1937 to 2023, which will released on November 14th.

Inside the package, there will be pages indicating the titles that are included in the set, also holding the Blu-Ray discs or the corresponding titles. In addition to that, there will be digital codes for all the included movies in the collection.

It will also come with a lithograph for the upcoming movie "Wish," a crystal Mickey Mouse ears engraved with "Disney 100," and a certificate of authenticity. As wonderful as it sounds, the price might not be so enticing as it costs $1,500 to purchase, as per The Wrap.

Pixar movies will also be included in the collection. As for which movies are in the mix, favorites like "Ratatouille," "Monsters Inc.," "The Incredibles" duology, "Beauty and the Beast," "The Princess and the Frog," "Wall-E," "Cars" trilogy, and "The Nightmare Before Christmas" are included.
