The Dream Track AI uses Google DeepMind's music generation model Lyria to generate songs, including lyrics, melody, and accompaniment by just entering a prompt.

The algorithm was even able to reproduce singing styles from well-known artists.

Lyor Cohen, YouTube's global head for music, said the new feature provides a new tool that the music industry "would dig and want to work with."

Voices from Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Sia, T-Pain, Troye Sivan, Papoose, and Alec Benjamin will be available to use for Dream Track's initial phase.

Only a small group of content creators will be able to use the feature during its experimental period.

YouTube Shorts vs TikTok Vids

The latest feature added to YouTube follows Google's attempt to reach the same audience TikTok has.

The Chinese social media app has been featuring a tool to add music to turn short-form content into an internet phenomenon.

The petitions to ban TikTok in the U.S. further cement the other social media giants' intention to catch the lightning-in-the-bottle popularity of the app.

At the same time, Google intends to widen the scope of DeepMind's use. YouTube has recently added a chatbot to provide further information on selected videos.

The feature is also in its initial experimental phase.

YouTube and AI Uses

The spread of AI in the social media sphere is the most prominent on YouTube as several guidelines have been introduced to the platform regarding AI-generated content.

A recent YouTube policy requires content creators to declare if their video has AI-generated content.

The social media giant also plans to "introduce updates that inform viewers when the content they're seeing is synthetic" over the coming months.

Many experts believe that the new policies are prompted by the increasing number of AI-powered disinformation on YouTube.
