2023 is the year of a renaissance for graphic design as old design trends surged back in popularity, just like a phoenix.
It would be no surprise if some, if not all, of these trends would continue to become sensations in the following year.

1. Y2K

Iridescent textures and colorful 2000s fashion are back this year with the revival of the Y2K trend.
The clothing trend has transcended into the graphic design world as people look back in nostalgia to the era that defined neon-colored trends, bubbly backgrounds, and futuristic club lettering.
Of course, who can forget the flood of blue and pink? There is so much blue and pink.
The trend is popular among K-pop fans as the design really suits the fashion sense of girl groups and idols.
The vibrant look of Y2K is sure to give a refreshing feel from the minimalistic designs that dominated in the design scene in the past years.
2. Grunge

First becoming popular in the 1980s, the Grunge design takes inspiration from rock and pop punk bands that dominated the era.
Many of the modern iterations of the design even feature the iconic poster texture seen in old magazines, comics, and plasters of the rebellious period.
The resurgence of this trend can be attributed to the mass appeal Spider-Punk from "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse" have.
The character features similar style with the ink-and-paper style of the trend. It comes as no surprise that many punkheads will bring back the design to popularity.
3. Art Deco

We are now jumping back to the 1910s with this next graphic design trend.
Art Deco copies the style of Western Europe and the United States during the height of Broadway and industrialization. Many designs made in this style follow geometric patterns and strong color choices to highlight the brilliance of the time.
The trend is popular on TikTok with the traditional and classic era being brought among young communities.

4. 3D Design

The 3D design many of us have seen in those computer games and programs in the 1990s to early parts of the 2000s is back with a brighter sheen.
The round and flowing design of 3D models are popular to partner with Y2K designs. People really like the colorful and bubbly look this year.
This design trend is really great for blending digital compositions into the background, creating this hypnotizing combination of physical and virtual appearance.
5. Maximalism

If the previous years have been marked with minimalistic design trends, this year features the return of maximalist artworks.
This was the trend that brought out the creativity in many people on how many design elements they can fill their canvas with. The cramped design alleviates the chaotic and lively mood many attributed to Gen Z.
Maximalism first became popular in the 1960s in housing layouts and magazine arts. The same inspirations is being used in this generation.
