Pedro Pascal's Role in Season 2

The actor behind the role of Joel Miller in the post-apocalyptic show is an important one, so fans of the show who are not aware of the video game franchise's plot might be wondering why Pedro Pascal is already done with filming, given that it has only been over a month.

To put things into perspective, the show started filming for the second season on February 12th, and industry insider Daniel Richtman already posted about Pedro Pascal finishing his parts this March 25th, as reported by Kotaku.

For the video game fans, they already know what's up ahead. With this indicating that Pascal only filmed a few scenes, it means that the showrunners are staying true to the source material and that we will no longer be seeing more of the actor.

If you're unfamiliar with the plot of the game the show is based on, which is The Last of Us Part 2, there are some very unfortunate things that the protagonists will go through, serving as a strong entrance for the deuteragonist, Abby Anderson.

Warning: Spoilers Ahead.

Why is Pascal's Role Short?

In the first season, we saw what happened once Joel finally managed to bring Ellie to Marlene. After building an attachment to what he once referred to as "cargo," Joel was distraught upon learning that creating the cure for the Cordyceps infection would mean Ellie would die.

Not accepting the fate that Ellie is dealt, Joel decides to save her from the surgery that would end her life by killing anyone and everyone who got in the way. Unfortunately, that included the lead doctor who was going to extract the Cordyceps from Ellie's brain.

As it turns out, that doctor had a daughter, who becomes one of the most important characters in the sequel, Abby Anderson. Pained by the death of her father, she eventually sets out with other members of the rebel group, Fireflies, to kill Joel.

In the game, the rebel group got close to Jackson, but it was actually Joel who found Abby after saving her from an Infected. When Joel brought Abby back to her group safely, he introduced himself and Tommy by their real names.

This led the deuteragonist to shoot Joel's legs using a shotgun, effectively crippling him. Tommy was struck on the head with a gun so that he would not interfere. Abby then spent some time beating Joel with a golf club until he was an inch away from death.

She did not finish him off until Ellie arrived, who looked for her father figure when she realized that he and Tommy were not at the post they were supposed to watch. After watching Joel be killed in front of her, she swore revenge and began the back-and-forth attacks between the two characters.
