iPhone 6 to sport rounded corners, curved glass display?

Apple's much-rumored iPhone 6 may launch with rounded corners and a curved glass display, if a new report is to be believed.

The next-generation iPhone 6 is one of the most highly-anticipated devices of this year, especially since it is expected to finally make the jump toward bigger displays. Previous reports suggested that the iPhone 6 will come in two large-screen models, one with a 4.7-inch display and the other with an even larger 5.5-inch screen, and new information now points toward a curved display.

Citing "reliable sources," Japanese publication Mac Otakara reports (see translation here) that Apple's next-generation flagship smartphone will sport rounded edges and a cover glass, moving away from the straight edges seen on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5S models. The report says the handset's profile looks similar to a Japanese aluminum bumper with a rounded housing for the iPhone.

The publication further claims that Apple will also ditch the rear glass antenna breaks it used for its iPhone 5 and 5S models and instead go for an all-aluminum design. If this proves to be accurate, this could indicate that Apple is implementing notable changes to its overall antenna layout. The company might choose to move current radios in different locations, but it's difficult to tell for sure at this point.

The new information falls in line with previous reports indicating that the iPhone 6 would sport slightly rounded edges. Not all reports pointed to a curved glass display, but Bloomberg did reveal back in December that Apple was working on two iPhone models with larger, curved displays to launch in 2014. That report was later disputed, but it may now turn out to be accurate.

As previously mentioned, Apple is expected to introduce two iPhone 6 models this year, one with a 4.7-inch display and another with a 5.5-inch screen. Recent information indicated that the smaller version will launch first, whereas the larger model may not be ready in time to launch this year.

Other than the larger displays, both versions of the next-generation iPhone will reportedly include a thinner and bezel-free design, as well as a faster Apple A8 processor, the Touch ID fingerprint scanner the company introduced with its iPhone 5S, and an upgraded camera with optical image stabilization (OIS).

Lastly, the iPhone 6 is expected to rock the upcoming iOS 8, which would also involve enhancements to Siri, Maps, iCloud, and others. Recent rumors have also claimed that Apple was pushing carriers to impose a $100 price increase for the next-generation model, but nothing is confirmed at this point.
