HTC teases new Desire smartphone for CES 2015

With the CES 2015 trade show just around the corner, HTC is apparently teasing a new Desire smartphone to debut at the event.

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is one of the hottest annual events in the tech world, and the upcoming CES 2015 is already shaping up to be quite exciting. Various companies such as ASUS, LG, and Sony have already started teasing their upcoming offerings, and HTC has now officially confirmed its presence at the show.

While many expect the company to take the wraps off its new HTC One M9, allegedly codenamed "Hima," at CES 2015, it looks like HTC may have other plans. As you can see in the image above, HTC is teasing a new Desire handset for a January unveiling at the show.

"Always desire more," reads the tagline for the CES 2015 poster HTC published on its official Weibo account, suggesting that the company is gearing up to unveil a new Desire smartphone on Jan. 5, 2015.

The poster further details that HTC will hold its launch event at CES 2015 between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM on Jan. 5 (U.S. time), but reveals little else. It remains unclear just what the new Desire smartphone will have to offer, or whether it will sport the specifications rumored for the purported HTC Hima.

Serial tipster Upleaks, for instance, speculates that the latest member of the Desire family may arrive as the HTC A52 and launch as a "selfie phone," boasting a 13-megapixel front camera in a 16GB model and a 4-megapixel UltraPixel front shooter in a 32GB variant. This would fall in line with recent rumors regarding the HTC Hima.

The handset could also come with dual-SIM support for select regions, but it could be available only for the Asian market, as HTC itself suggests in its new teaser. In other words, it remains unclear just what exactly HTC plans for CES 2015, but the company's teaser clearly suggests that a new Desire handset is en route.

With the CES 2015 just around the corner, however, we'll soon have the official scoop straight from the source. We'll make sure to keep you up to date as more information becomes available, so stay tuned.
