T-Mobile Sony Xperia Z3, Xperia Z1s Android 5.0 Lollipop update imminent
The Sony Xperia Z1s and Xperia Z3 on T-Mobile are apparently in for a neat treat, as the Android 5.0 Lollipop update is finally in testing.
Sony has made a promise a good while ago to upgrade its entire Xperia Z lineup to Android 5.0 Lollipop, and it has already pushed the new software to a number of its devices. The process is always gradual and it takes time, especially when there are many devices involved, but Sony has been regularly providing updates on its Lollipop rollout process, announcing which devices are next in line and when should they expect the treat. Considering that the entire Xperia lineup consists of plenty of devices, it's no big surprise that some of them are still waiting for updates.
When it comes to carrier versions of devices, meanwhile, things can take even longer. Although the manufacturer releases the update for its handsets, carriers still have to go through their own stages before rolling out the new software.
It now seems that T-Mobile is getting ready to start delivering the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its Sony Xperia Z1s (pictured above) and Xperia Z3. The carrier's software update page listed both devices as still in the "manufacturer development" stage back in April, which meant that it was still getting ready to accommodate the firmware. Now, however, the same page shows that the two devices have now reached the testing stage, which indicates that T-Mobile could soon roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
"During this stage, the device will go through T-Mobile certification process testing to make sure you get the best quality software possible," the carrier's support page further explains.
Sony Xperia Z3 owners on T-Mobile may also be pleased to know that their smartphone will receive support for LTE Band 12 (700 MHz), and their Lollipop treat will likely arrive this month. When listing compatible devices for this LTE Band 12, T-Mobile notes that the Xperia Z3 will get it via a "software update coming May 2015."
In other words, the Android 5.0 Lollipop is just around the corner and could arrive momentarily, at least for the Xperia Z3.
T-Mobile has yet to make an official announcement regarding when it plans to roll out the update to its Xperia Z1s and Xperia Z3, but it shouldn't be too long now. We'll keep you up to date as soon as we learn more, so stay tuned.
