Rio Olympics 2016 Update: Williams Sister Lose For The First Time In Doubles

Serena and Venus Williams were surprised as they lost for the first time in the doubles in Olympics. They were up against Czech Republic's Lucie Safarova and Barbora Strycova. Though their opponents have never won an Olympics, they lost to a 6-3, 6-4 final score. Their opponents were also partnered for only the second time.

This was Serena's second fight for the day after she won the first round of her singles fight. The three-time doubles gold medallists were shocked at how things turned out. They were the expected winner because they have always won the doubles match for the last Olympics. Chicago Tribune said that they won in the 2000, 2008, and 2012 Olympics, and people were not expecting any less from them.

During the game, some of the audience would cheer for the sisters but would get boos in return. In the second round, it looks like the sisters were getting the hang of it. The score tied to four. However, Venus was not really in the zone. The Czech players were aiming the ball successfully to Venus while Serena was just watching in the net line.

The U.S. women's coach said Venus was not really in condition as she lost her singles match prior this match.  It was reported that Venus was not feeling well. She has been sick since before going to Rio for the Olympics. She was also dehydrated and has an upset stomach after Saturday's match where she lost. Fox News stated that Venus did not entertain any reporter after her loss.

Serena Williams said that their game suck and it showed. She added that she did not play like how she wanted to. Strycova and Safarov were happy that they won against the sisters. They said that though it was only their second time playing together, they were really good friends. They know each other's strength and weaknesses in the court.
