Expected Move From Microsoft: Intel Kaby Lake & AMD Zen Chips Will Not Work With Past Operating Systems

Microsoft has never been discreet when it comes to controlling Windows' scope of support. This is why not a lot of fans were shocked when the company announced that only Windows 10 can support the new Intel Kaby Lake processor and AMD Zen chips.

Apparently, this isn't the first time Microsoft shut the door on users who may have wanted to keep their older Windows versions without sacrificng anything. Earlier this year, the computer giant also decided to shorten their Windows 7/8 life cycle support.

However, Microsoft eventually got rid of their controversial policy and returned the life cycle support for Windows 7 and 8 back to their standard length. Nevertheless, this does not mean that the company is stopped from doing a similar step yet again.

Needless to say, Microsoft is doing the same thing for the upcoming Kaby Lake, Qualcomm 8996 and AMD Bristol Ridge, reports Forbes. All these will only work for Windows 10.

Microsoft's Response About This Controversy

In a statement from Microsoft, the company said that their goal is to innovate and "move forward." Tech company heads have said that these policies help the company ensure the quality of integration between its system and the silicon. The company says that they do this while maintaining maximum overall reliability with previous platforms and silicons.

What Intel And AMD Has To Say

Intel and AMD may not have a lot of say about this matter. Intel says that it is committed to working with Microsoft to make the transition to this policy as smooth as possible. AMD, on the other handm says that the company's processor roadmap aligns with Microsoft's strategy.
