'Pokemon Go' News: Blocked Players With Rooted And Jailbroken Devices Demand Refunds

Niantic already warned users before the Buddy Pokemon update that they will no longer support modified devices (jailbroken, unlocked, or rooted) but this did not stop affected players to excitingly download the update - it's a huge update, who has time to migrate to a 'legit' phone?

Obviously, those Pokemon Go trainers who have modified devices are going to be stuck in the loading screen reading: "This device, OS, or software is not compatible with Pokémon Go," Unless the game is reverted back to the version prior to the 0.37.0 / 1.7.0 update, Pokémon fans have no other way to go past the error screen, Polygon reports.

A Reddit post retaliates to this by justifying with expenses for the game's in-app purchases, with details about the experience with Google customer service struggling to get a refund stating:

"I wouldn't have had a problem with [the update booting jailbroken/rooted/unlocked phones] if they blocked rooted users from launch," original poster GnothiSeauton said of Niantic. "However, doing it 2 months into the [game] show after rooted users have invested time and money into the game, is completely unscrupulous."

This protest has a very low success rate as is since Niantic Labs, as stated above, did all precautionary measures before implementing the player blocks. Also, this is only applicable to Pokemon Go trainers who have spent money for the game so for those who haven't spent a dime, just sit back, grab some popcorn and enjoy the show.

Blocking tweaked devices from Pokémon Go is just part of Niantic's long list of over-measures in the attempt reduce cheating and increase security. But there are other reasons why devices get rooted or jailbroken and cheating is not the main reason, many people have justified. Android users, for instance, root their devices to make customization. People also buy unlocked phones as to avoid carrier fees as well as other charges.

Work-arounds for this issue are also posted, one of them requires an additional program, which when summed is a lot of trouble to use, so might as well get a 'legit' phone to enjoy Pokemon Go hassle-free.
