'League Of Legends' Developers Create A Board Game: 'Mechs vs. Minions' Game Overview

The famous "League of Legends (LoL)" game has over 100 million active players per month. Now, LoL's developer Riot Games has ventured into a new avenue: board games. The game developer has created a new game that LoL players will surely love, and it's titled "Mechs vs. Minions."

"It's easily the most expensive piece in the game," said Chris Cantrell, producer. The board game is priced at $75, which some might find a little costly. Yet with the game's unique gameplay, a lot of players are excited about it.

"And there was a very compelling argument that we should use that as part of our marketing push, but frankly it was less about selling units and more about preserving this magical experience for players," Cantrell added.

About a year and a half ago, the game developers at Riot Games decided to create a board game. Despite having a lot at stake and requiring double work efforts to complete the project, the table top game dubbed as "Mechs vs. Minions" was created.

As a gift for the avid players of "League of Legends," which is already a highly successful game, the board game will feature LoL characters. The physical game consists of cards, figures, and a dice. It can be played by about two to four players. It combines the strategy elements of LoL with story-driven missions and various miniature figures.

Game Overview

The game has 10 various missions, which will take about 60 to 90 minutes each. Each player has to choose to play the roles of four different characters such as Tristana, Heimerdinger, Ziggs, and Corki. The League champions are tasked to fight off waves of minion enemies.

The game package contains a lot of elements like five game boards, a hundred miniature minions, four painted mech figures and other game elements including power source miniature, cards, acrylic shards and a dice.

"Mechs vs. Minions" will be available on Oct. 13 via Riot's online store.
