Will Apple Choose To Release A New MacBook Air Over The 2016 MacBook Pro? What Analysts Say

Apple may be currently riding the hype following its unveiling of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, but there are still questions surrounding the upcoming releases of its other products. Arguably at the top of the list are an updated MacBook Pro and a MacBook Air. Fortunately, some tech analysts have weighed in on the issue and have given valuable insight into the current state.

Are Both The MacBook Pro 2016 and MacBook Air 2016 Arriving?

As noted by Forbes, Rhoda Alexander, who is the Director of Tablet and Notebook PCs at IHS Markit Technology, has confirmed that production for new units for the MacBook Pro and the MacBook Air have already began. In fact, production started months ago.

"Production started in the second calendar quarter on refreshes of the 13.3-inch and 15.4-inch MacBook Pro [and] the 13.3-inch MacBook Air," she said.

When Will The MacBook Pro 2016 and MacBook Air 2016 Be Unveiled?

Because production started within the months of April and June, Alexander estimated a launch between September and October. However, as there are only a few days left in the month, the public is more likely to see an October reveal.

After all, Apple only announced the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus earlier this month. It is only logical that the Cupertino-based company allow the attention to die down a little before revealing its next products.

MacBook Pro 2016 and MacBook Air 2016: Processor

As Tech Times notes, however, Alexander's timeline means that neither of the MacBook devices will be powered by Intel's latest Kaby Lake processor. It is therefore more realistic to expect an Intel Skylake processor resting comfortable inside both items.

It is unknown why Apple might be going this route, but a Skylake processor would definitely cut costs down. Furthermore, it is unknown at this point just how much more power the Kaby Lake processor even has over the Skylake chip.
