Microsoft's 2016 Plan: Surface All-In-One, HomeHub Plus Surface Pro 4 And Windows 10 Update

On October 26, Microsoft will hold a Windows 10 event in New York City, which is expected to heavily focus on the updates it has made to its latest OS. However, there is no doubt that the Redmond-based company will also churn out some amazing hardware to feature the Redstone updates. These include a Surface All-In-One desktop, HomeHub and possibly a refresh on the existing Surface Pro 4.

Granted, this year's Windows 10 event will not hold a candle to last year's in terms of hardware, which unleashed the Surface Book, Surface Pro 4, Lumia 950 series and the Microsoft Band 2 to the public. This does not necessarily mean, however, that October 26 will not be as relevant. It will, after all, unveil some exciting new products from the tech giant.

As Windows Central notes, one of the most anticipated products is the Surface All-In-One, which reportedly has been codenamed "Cardinal" within the Microsoft office. The device is likely to have a detachable display, as has become standard with Surface products. The display will be 27 inches - though 21 inch and 24-inch options are also reported - and will have 4K resolution.

The Surface AIO Desktop will not just be beautiful to look at, but will reportedly be powerful as well. Under the hood, the device will be powered by a GTX-1080 video card, which would make it compatible for gaming. Theoretically, this could also make the unit capable of VR and AR. But any Surface product is nothing without its accessories, and the AIO will be no different.

Reports have pointed to all new Surface Mouse and two Surface Keyboards. One of the keyboards is expected to be simple and minimalist, while the other is ergonomic. Whether or not the new accessories will compatible with older Surface products remains unsure at this point.

Another exciting release that is expected from Microsoft is the HomeHub, which should give the Amazon Echo and Google Home a run for their money. Theoretically, it will work exactly like the other smart speakers but will be powered by Cortana instead of Alexa or Google Assistant. HomeHub should be able to store different files, such as music, videos, and documents, which it could then stream to any other Windows 10 device.

At this point, it has pretty much been accepted that the Surface Pro 5 will not make an appearance this year. However, this does not mean that Microsoft will not do anything to upgrade the existing Surface Pro 4. It is possible that the company will make a slight adjustment that will make it more powerful - by installing the new Kaby Lake Processor - but not enough that it will be considered the next generation. The update to Windows 10 is also expected to include new features to various Microsoft Products. These include Office Hub, HomeHub, HoloShell and UWP File Exporter.

The Windows 10 event is shaping up to be one of the most eventful nights of the year, but that is not all Microsoft has under its sleeve. According to The Verge, Microsoft will hold another event on November 2. However, the latter event will focus more on business. Nevertheless, CEO Satya Nadella and Office CVP Kirk Koenigsbauer will be in attendance, so it will surely be a memorable night as well.
