Skyrim Special Edition Guild Guide: How To Join The Dark Brotherhood, College Of Winterhold Mages, Thieves And More

Skyrim Special Edition was just released, bringing the same Skyrim experience with improved graphics, allowing you to explore Tamriel in a new perspective. It gives a chance to fans of the 2011 title to revisit the game where they spent hundreds of hours on while luring in new gamers to give it a try. To those who are new, you might need a guide about which guild to join.

There are four Skyrim guilds: The Dark Brotherhood Guild, Thieves Guild, College of Winterhold and Companion Fighters Guild. Other than that, there are three factions: Stormcloaks, Imperial Legion and Dawnguard. But we'll only talk about the guilds for now.

Skyrim Special Edition Guild Guide: The Dark Brotherhood Guild

The Dark Brotherhood is an assassin's guild, which is quite popular among Skyrim fans. To set you off on the right path, get an innkeeper to tell you about the boy named Aventus Aretino in Windhelm. Or you can also go to the Honorhall Orphanage in Riften to talk to the children there. Any of the two should get you heading towards Aventus.

Find the boy in Windhelm and once you do, you will take the "Innocence Lost" quest, which will require you to go to the orphanage and kill someone. The quest will be complete. After a day or so you'll encounter a courier in the city with a note for you - "We know."

Go to sleep in any inn and the next thing you know, you're in some abandoned shack. Finish the other missions and decide if you want to join the Skyrim The Dark Brotherhood Guild or not.

Skyrim Special Edition Guild Guide: Thieves Guild

If you fancy stealing things rather than committing a murder, then the Skyrim Thieves Guild might be the right one for you. To join the underground guild, you must head to Riften to find Brynjolf. Per EuroGamer, he can usually be found loitering in the market at day time.

He will automatically approach you, which will prompt the "A Chance Encounter" quest. Complete the quest (even if you fail, you will still be invited though) and meet him in the Ragged Flagon. You will become a full-fledged Skyrim Thieves Guild member, gaining you access to their quest line.

Skyrim Special Edition Guild Guide: College Of Winterhold

Want to be a mage? Head on to Winterhold and find the college. Before you can enter, though, you will be asked to perform a magic spell. Don't worry as Faralda will sell you a spell for 30 Gold if you don't know any.

And that's about it. Just make sure you don't go killing a student, which will get you kicked out.

Skyrim Special Edition Guild Guide: Companion Fighters Guild

This is one of the first guilds you'll come across. And this is no ordinary guild for the fighting types. This will actually give you a chance to be a werewolf.

Head over to their base, which is at Jorrvaskr at the eastern side of Whiterun. Chat up some of the members until you come across the name Kodlak Whitemane. The person will point him to you so you can go and talk to him.

You will find yourself in a training session soon enough, in which you must only use melee weapons. Afterward, you will have to do some small missions. The last request will be random, but once you finish it, you will be officially invited to be a member of the Skyrim Companion Fighters Guild.

These guilds will give you a chance to explore more of the world, do more exciting quests and enjoy the game more. It will undoubtedly be the same experience in Skyrim Special Edition, so even though these are optional, it is absolutely recommended to join one.

Skyrim Special Edition is now available on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
