Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Rumors : Will Be Super Sweet

Launching off the terrific successes of its previous Android models and recent Jelly Bean updates, Google is reportedly moving full-steam ahead on its K Android series with the dessert-based codename Key Lime Pie.

Tastier news still is that this next Android iteration (5.0) is expected to be a significant leap forward from Jelly Bean.

After first relaying the apocryphal rumor that Sony was a potential provider for the next Nexus phone to be powered by Key Lime Pie, Techradar recanted when the handset appeared with Android Jelly Bean.

Considering the announcement Google made that its next developer conference will be held from May 15 to 17, 2013 (a month earlier than in 2012), current speculation is that this will be the unveiling event of the Android 5.0. Because Google announced Android 4.1 Jelly Bean at 2012's IO Conference, it's even more likely.

After a number of sites published leaked screengrabs of Qualcomm's roadmap laying out the Key Lime Pie and new Nexus release schedule, the company requested the sites desist.

The sites complied, and though such screengrabs have in the past led to nothing, it's possible Qualcomm's request means this release date estimation for the Key Lime Pie was correct.

The fact that Qualcomm suggested the release would take place some time between April and June 2013 (with May smack dab in the middle) may also seal the deal.

In January 2012, DruidForums announced their "hidden friends in high places in the industry" didn't let them down by letting them know the Motorola X would be the first device to be shipped with Android 5.0/Key Lime Pie.

The site also again confirmed that the announcement would be made at this year's Google IO Conference in May.

"Take this rumor with a grain of salt," says DruidForum, "because we couldn't find any other info across the web to back it up; however, if it is just a fan-boy's imaginings, it seems very logical and well-developed."

If Press Blue is correct in its reporting of yet another rumor on Monday, Feb. 18, the new Samsung Galaxy Note 3 will have the honor of being the one to come out with Android 5.0.

The new Galaxy, "expect[ed] to be grace[d] with an octa-core processor, at least 2GB of RAM, 13-megapixel camera and a rumored 6-inch full HD 1080p display," may in fact be only one of many "top-tier [s]martphones arriving post-summer have the potential to ship with the new OS right out of the box."

Finally, Samsung's own blog teases the fact that the new Galaxy may very well end up running on Tizen in lieu of Key Lime Pie.
