Conor McGregor Says 'He Was Forced To Give Up' The Featherweight Crown

Conor McGregor has said several times that he didn't intend to renounce a title if he became a two-division champ, but on Saturday it was a different story, the UFC announced the Irish star's done just that.

During the broadcast for UFC Fight Night 101, the producer announced that as reported earlier by MMA Fighting, Max Holloway - Anthony Pettis will be for the interim 145 title. That fight will headline "UFC 206", which will take place in Toronto, Ontario. The UFC also announced that McGregor has "relinquished" the featherweight title, and thus, Jose Aldo is once more the undisputed champion. Aldo decision Frankie Edgar in July to win the interim belt.

In a press release that's been posted at UFC.com, it says the subsequent:

The UFC announced the new main event on Saturday, also revealing that Jose Aldo is the promotion's new undisputed featherweight champion after two-division title holder Conor McGregor returns the 145-pound belt and he decided to focus on the title he holds in the 155-pound lightweight division.

Today, it is more interesting to read that McGregor has "decided to focus" on the lightweight belt he won at UFC 205. Why he said that? Well, not only because in the past McGregor discussed that he could defend two titles, but because MMA Fighting's reporting sources have informed Ariel Helwani the Irish star didn't agree to give up the 145 belt.

Then McGregor said, he wanted to keep both belts, UFC president Dana White made it clear even before UFC 205 that McGregor would eventually have to give up one of the titles so that one of the divisions would not be held up.

Prior to UFC 205, UFC President Dana White said that McGregor would need to vacate a title, if he defeated Eddie Alvarez. Fans, it will be engaging to see if he will win or not.
