'Riverdale' Episode 1 News, Spoilers: New Teaser For CW's Darker Take On ‘Archie’ Comics Released; Archie Gets Involved In Murder Mystery

"Riverdale" is on its way to the CW and it is not a regular adaptation of the Archie comics on the small screen. Created by "Dawson's Creek," "Supergirl," and "Arrowverse" writer and producer Greg Berlanti, the new series will follow the adventures of the high-schooler Archie (KJ Apa). The TV version of Archie needs to navigate his sophomore year while uncovering the mystery surrounding a murder.

The CW's "Riverdale" Teaser

"Riverdale" is the new show to watch out for in The CW's midseason lineup. The network's new series may be based on the "Archie" comics but Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, the executive producer explains that the series is a "little bit" weird, complex, and darker than the usual. The EP's words have been confirmed when the first promo teaser for the series was released.

Based on the preview, Archie will have a hot body and the series might be less wholesome than the comics. The women vying for Archie's attractions, Betty (Lili Reinhart) and Veronica (Camila Mendes), would be something to look forward to. Archie's friend, Jughead (Cole Sprouse), will also play an important role in the series.

"Riverdale" Pilot Episode Spoilers

Based on the newest "Riverdale" preview, the series will not be another "Gossip Girl" copycat although it might have a similar vibe. Archie needs to deal with a good dose of high school drama as the new girl in town, Veronica, tries to vie for his attention. Of course, Betty will try to hold Archie's interest.

On top of the girl drama going on, they have to deal with the death of the tragic passing of Archie's classmate, Jason Blossom. The police tape and the ambulance lights suggest that this death -- which will be featured on the pilot episode of "Riverdale" -- will play a vital role in the plot.

"Riverdale" will air on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 9 p.m. right after "Supernatural" on The CW.
