'Baywatch' Movie Reboot: The Rock, Zac Efron In Lean Muscle Saving Lives

The first extensive look at Paramount's upcoming Baywatch movie reboot debuted online Thursday. The teaser trailer for the action-comedy movie, inspired by the long-running TV show, features Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Zac Efron as squabble lifeguards Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) and Matt Brody (Efron).

The teaser for the reboot begins with the familiar opening notes of the Baywatch theme song and a shot of lifeguards running in slow-mow before cutting to Buchannon in action rescuing a woman from a boat on fire.

The preview then introduces brash newly recruit Brody, with whom Johnson swiftly butt's heads, calling him "reckless." Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario and Kelly Rohrbach co-star in the Seth Gordon-directed film, which is set to hit theaters in summer on May 26, 2017.

The 'Baywatch' Obstacle Course Pits The Rock vs. Zac Efron

Even Zac Efron finds Baywatch's lifeguard obstacle course a little tough. Johnson explained that TV reality show inspired the course "American Ninja Warrior" meets "World's Strongest Man". Idea that you will be physically and mentally tested to your limits, and at the same time staying focused and being as calm as possible in extremely stressful situations."

In later posts, Johnson adds a friendly competition with Efron, who plays his fellow lifeguard Matt Brody, a role played by David Charvet in the TV series. The two lifeguards never seemed to settle their competitive aggressiveness.

Johnson plays Mitch Buchannon, played in the TV show by David Hasselhoff, Alexandra Daddario plays Nicole Eggert's Summer Quinn and Kelly Rohrbach reprises Anderson's C.J. Parker. The number of openings Efron seems to find to display around shirtless might be getting old by now if he weren't, save for a handful of misses, funny pretty much every time he does it.
