'How I Met Your Mother' Spinoff In The Works; ‘This Is Us’ Execs Developing A Story From The Father’s Perspective

"How I Met Your Mother" has been one of the most successful sitcoms on American TV, and now another spinoff is reportedly in the works. "How I Met Your Father" is under development by 20th Century Fox TV and the story will be told from a woman's perspective. The executive producers for the show will be the same team behind NBC's family drama "This is Us."

Latest rumors indicate that another spinoff from the comedy hit "How I Met Your Mother" is in development. This time, Elizabeth Berger and Isaac Aptaker, the co-executive producers of "This is Us," will take over the new project. Original HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will be involved in the project although their exact roles are not yet known.

Unfortunately, the new series will not involve any of the original characters so this is not the much-anticipated return of the HIMYM cast on television. While this may not sit well with the fans of the series, this means that the creators can pitch the spinoff to any network not just to CBS.

"How I Met You Mother" Spinoff

Back in 2014, CBS ordered a pilot episode of a spinoff entitled "How I Met Your Dad" when HIMYM was about to end. The spinoff would have starred Greta Gerwig but many fans were surprised when CBS did not go through with the project. The idea was revisited more than once but 20th TV and CBS could not agree on the terms until Bays and Thomas decided to move to Sony.

Unlike other popular comedies, "How I Met Your Mother" did not have a lot of fans during the first few seasons but it ultimately became popular with the younger audience. In fact, the series lasted for nine seasons because of its social media following.

While the development of the "How I Met Your Mother" spinoff is certain, there is still no news when the new comedy will be released.
