Supercar Beatdown: Dodge Challenger Hellcat vs Chevrolet Camaro ZL1

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and Dodge Challenger Hellcat are considered to be two of the most powerful cars in America. Dreams do come true for fans and enthusiasts in the land of the free as the road pitted the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 against the Dodge Challenger Hellcat in an epic supercar beatdown and the result is nothing short of exhilarating.

The Muscle Cars Under The Hood

According to report, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat has 707 horsepower under the hood paired with 10-speed automatic transmission. The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 on the other hand has 650 horsepower matched with a six-speed manual gearbox. Despite the difference in horsepower however, it was mentioned that the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 proved to be a worthy opponent for the Dodge Challenger Hellcat on the drag strip.

The Inevitable Result

Given the fact that the Dodge Challenger Hellcat has more power under its hood compared to the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, most people would assume that the former would win the race and they would be right. However, it was not exactly the difference in power that decided the battle between the two supercars. The Drive reported that it was the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1's manual gearbox that cost it the race. "The only time the Hellcat pulled ahead of the ZL1 was when he was shifting. He was not speeding shifting on the car, so, he was lifting off to shift, whereas the automatic, I just kept my foot on the ground and kept going," said John Hennessey, the man who drove the Dodge Challenger Hellcat.

Hellcat Gets Record But Victory Went To Camaro

Reports state that the Dodge Challenger Hellcat got the score for the record. However, it was also mentioned that the real victory went to the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1. Despite the huge gap in horsepower, the latter was still able to keep up with the former and the battle could have gone either way if both cars had automatic transmission.
