Opioid Addiction : The Counter Action Against Drug Abuse

Opioid addiction is just one of the reasons why ten of thousands of people die every year. According to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 33,000 out of more than 55,000 deaths of Americans last year were related to opioid addiction.

Still the number of people being dependent and continuous the misuse of this prescribed drug is increasing.

Sen. Joe Manchin of West Virginia said that the opioid problem "a war on drugs." Considering that is has been 45 years that Richard Dixon already declared such war.

An action plan launched by a coalition of community leaders has increased prevention safeguards and drug treatment offerings within the county. It goals to reduce the harmful effects of opioid addiction and prevent children from dangerous situations.

The most serious cases involve prescribed opioid and illegal opioid and heroin usege. Statistics say that there is no teenager among the diseased. It is also alarming to see that four people who died in 2016 died of fentanyl toxicity.

Fentanyl is a drug 100 times more powerful than morphine. It is actually used by veterinarians to tranquilize elephants.

Fentanyl is absorbed through the skin and it is also dangerous for people who have contact with it. Even the people called to help those who had overdose are in danger too.

According to the The Reporter, Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney said it's vital communities throughout the county provide ample resources to fight the addiction, and for citizens to understand how easily an opioid addiction can develop.

According to the Orange County Register, in the past 25 years, prescriptions for opioids have skyrocketed. This has alarmed policymakers and government bureaucracies tasked with combating the scourge of drugs.

There are actions implemented in 2016, like more than two tons of medications were collected. Law enforcement agencies referring drug suspects to the district attorney's office with state charges. Surveys being conducted on eighth and eleventh grade that centers in Tabaco, alcohol and drug use.

Six additional law enforcements join the Drug Endangered Children team. Wherein children are being rescued from home situation involving drug abuse and more that are pending. Narcan training is also being offered already three times.

Opioid addiction is a really serious matter that could also endanger the future generation.
