Here's Why Nintendo Barely Gets Anything Out From Super Mario Run

It seems that despite the tremendous traffic that Nintendo gets through the whooping 90 million downloads of Super Mario Run, the Japanese multinational giant isn't raking as much revenue as what most would've expected from the app that ranked first for the most downloaded game in iOS. Here's why.

The Dismal Truth about Super Mario Run

As reported by The Wall Street Journal, the market research firm Newzoo, has revealed that the first mobile app of Nintendo has garnered 90 million downloads following its debut but only 3% are paying to unlock the full game. Further analysis revealed that the company has earned $30 million in gross revenue as of Dec. 15.

Had all of those downloads converted to the premium version ($9.99/£9.99), the company would've had a staggering $900 million in gross revenue which could've taken it, theoretically, on par against Niantic's flagship, Pokémon GO. But the dismal truth about Super Mario Run is that, the game doesn't offer any other means of in-game purchases, as of the moment, as compared to other prominent mobile apps. But does this mean that our beloved Mario won't make it to the top grossing apps?

The Future of Super Mario Run

Before we jump into conclusion, take note that the game has yet to be released in Android, which according to the data gathered by Gartner, comprises about 86.2% share in worldwide market as compared to the 12.9% share of iOS. And we're pretty sure that there are many fans from Android that are anticipating to get the iconic Mario on their mobile devices.

Granted that we'd see a recursive event of what have had happened on iOS, the point of the matter is that, Nintendo still has something to look forward to for its mobile app and that Mario can still run a lot longer than it currently has.

Until the app gets its official release on Android, we can only hope and speculate of its success. Be sure to check this article from time to time as we will update the data given for any future changes.
