Half-Life 3 Update: Should Have Been Out Years Ago As RTS; Find Out What Happened

Half-Life 3 fans have been expecting this upcoming game since forever. One Valve insider claimed that it could have been released as an RTS game years ago.

Half-Life 3 RTS Theory

Game Informer rep Andrew Reiner told some pretty interesting stories about Valve's attempt to turn Half-Life 3 into an RTS one. It seems game developer Valve was trying a series of format for the next Half-Life installment and real-time strategy was one of the formats experimented on.

A Departure From Tradition

The previous Half-Life series are all first-erson shooters. Valve though seems very interested in the RTS gameplay. The developer also mulled the idea of getting real life actors who will be featured in the various cut scenes. Fans would have been thrilled to see the lucky actor tapped to portray Gordon Freeman. Unfortunately, the RTS development reportedly did not go far.

This is the only information that Renier could get from the insider. The only ones who could shed more light on the RTS development are unlikely to divulge any details about it. Fans though are puzzled why Valve is dragging its feet on Half-Life 3. Some industry observers claimed that the third installment has been under development for more than 12 years now. The developer either has something special plan for Half-Life 3 or is too busy with other projects.

Half-Life 3 Details So Far

Half-Life 2: Episode 2 came out on 2007. The game ended in which Alyx, Eli and Gordon were hit by the Combine. Valve was supposed to release a third episode but that's seems moot right now. It's still possible though that the developer is planning to release the third installment as an RTS. Such possibility will make a lot of fans happy at least. But it seems most of them will take Half-Life 3 in any form right now.
