Rainbow Six Siege Update: New Spanish Operator Can Track Footprints

Ubisoft previously announced their upcoming free update for Rainbow Six Siege called Velvet Shell. Following the announcement, the publishing company released a video teaser of the patch revealing one of the new Operatives arriving in the game. The new character was identified as Jackal, a Spanish Operator possessing an ability to see glowing footprints on the floor which is intended to track enemies.

According to the official website of Rainbow Six Siege, Jackal is part of the Spanish Grupo Especial de Operaciones. Meanwhile, Farah Brixi, scriptwriter of Rainbow Six Siege, explained that Jackal's design will make the opposing team cautious as Jackal hunts them down. Furthermore, the Jackal lore post confirms that there will be two Operators to represent on this new patch similar to the past DLC releases.

On the other hand, Jackal's abilities have been showcased during his video reveal. He is seen lurking inside the new map called Ibiza. It was then revealed that Jackal could actually see footsteps on the floor during the late part of the video. Apparently, Jackal could possibly be the new offensive Operator who can track down the defense team's current location. In addition, using the tracked footprints, players can intercept the opposing team by placing traps to their team's advantage.

According to the report from The BitBag, despite Jackal's unique ability, it seems like Rainbow Six Siege subreddit community was not impressed with it. Some players believed that Jackal won't be widely used in the professional matches. In addition, players note that they will use drone teams or killsquads more often to easily count out tactics that Jackal's ability might cover. Though Jackal might still be picked during competitive ranked games which includes an unorthodox play like Caveira.

Overall, perhaps players are comfortable using drones and cameras in tracking the movements of the opposing team. In addition, teamwork and effective communication might also balance out without the presence of Jackal's special ability during matches. However, it is still highly suggested to wait for Jackal's official release in order to see how the players will utilize his ability to fit in their unique playstyles.
