The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Lacks Naming Option for Link; Series Producer Reveals Reason for Voice Acting

Series producer Eiji Aonuma explained the importance of voice acting in the latest installment as well as the absence of naming Link. On the other hand, the new trailer features breathtaking scenery, intense action and interaction between Zelda and the protagonist.

Importance Of Voice Acting in "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild"

According to My Nintendo News (blog), Eiji Aonuma recently sat down for an interview to answer a few lingering questions about the game. To begin with, he confirmed that players will not be able to name the protagonist as his default name will be Link. While seemingly minor, this is yet another change in the series as previous installments allowed fans to freely name the main character.

Meanwhile, the producer also went into more detail about the inclusion of proper voice acting. Firstly, he stated that only relevant characters to the overall plot will speak. Following this, Aonuma mentioned how they put voice acting in order for players to "identify" with the various personalities in the game.

On a different note, he noted how "Breath of the Wild" has turned out the way he envisioned the game to be. However, Aonuma found it difficult to stop working on the project as he wanted to further expand on it. Will his ideas eventually make their way to the game in the future as downloadable content?

New Trailer Showcases Some Interesting Scenes

That aside, the game's official Japanese website released a new trailer that contains various mixed clips of the game, as per GameSpot. The two-minute clip highlights the gorgeous environments and some fast-paced action gameplay. Furthermore, one interesting tidbit is that Zelda and Link actually seem to be traveling together at one point in the story.

As the release date for the game grows closer, fans can expect Nintendo to reveal more information about the game. The latest installment has taken a leap of faith as it completely mixes up the franchise's standard formula. "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" will launch on Mar. 3 alongside the Nintendo Switch.
