Apple Receives Patent For Audio Enhancement Using Powerful Magnets

Apple has received a patent for a next-generation audio speaker to be used for future Apple devices. The new tech will utilize magnets to enhance the sound of upcoming iPhones.

The patent is titled "Audio Speaker Having a High-Saturation Magnetic Insert" and describes a new audio speaker system that may be used by Apple for its iPhone line. The patent is simply about a tech that will enhance the audio performance even if the device has a slimmer body. The process, however, is as complicated as it gets.

Apple will be utilizing a high-saturation magnet insert which is placed in the recess of a bottom plate. Patently Apple noted that Apple is aware that the space for audio speakers are becoming smaller and smaller as devices shrink in size. In other words, the more compact the phone, the less the space for the audio speaker. This is why the company is working on utilizing miniaturized components to create an audio system that will fit in such smaller spaces.

The problem with this innovation is that smaller components open up new problems. Because the top or bottom plate of the magnetic circuit are reduced in thickness, they are likely unable to prevent magnetic flux from leaking out. This happens when the magnetic field in the thinner plate reaches its point of saturation. When a magnetic flux does leak, it can affect other devices with a magnet system such as parking tickets, hotel keys, and gift cards by demagnetizing them and causing loss of data. This problem was addressed by using components that have higher saturation limits allowing increased magnetic field with little fear of stray magnetic flux from leaking out.

As Tech Radar noted, the United States Patent and Trademark Office actually granted a total of 48 patents to the tech giant today, Feb. 14. Apple has been very active on the patent filing front lately. Aside from the 48 new patents, the company has received patents for a vaporizer, a wearable external battery charger, and laser polishing technology.
