Overwatch Player Makes Fun Of His Own 'Potato PC,' Starts Receiving Donations For Better Specs

Overwatch has been known to have the most toxic players in any game community, spreading more than its fair share of poisonous bitterness through racist, sexist and occasional petty insults. That's not what happened to Ethan though, a Reddit user who received donations of parts to help replace his old "Potato PC" as he called it, which the Overwatch community has been more than happy to pitch in.

Overwatch Community Donates PC Parts

Reddit user Ethan posted a gif on the Overwatch subreddit of a Play of the Game, mentioning that his running the game on a "potato," which is not an overstatement since he runs Overwatch at 800x600 resolutions with all the settings on low. He sent PCGamer his specs which, according to them, include AMD Radeon 8400 with only 512 mb of RAM, which is 200 mb less of what Overwatch requires to run. He posted the Play of the Game nonetheless and beating the other users from calling his "potato" quality out.

Hours later, he found more than a handful of users willing to give him spare computer parts. From a new EVGA 660 to a new power supply because his old one can't handle a modern video card; even a new motherboard and a processor. Ethan was a little baffled but either way, grateful of how the Overwatch community reacted. "Watching a community band together just to help one person, if this all works out and I end up getting this new PC I'll probably break down crying," he said.

Overwatch Community Gains Phrase

The Overwatch community was able to band together and find common ground; their love for the game outweighs their obsession over ranks. They are getting phrases from non-Overwatch players due to the generous act. One user wrote, "Jesus I need to play Overwatch or something. Coming in from /R/all and seeing you f*ckers throw around GPUs like they're trading cards while I'm slumming on a 500 series is hilarious. Damned fine community you've got here."

However, the grass is not always greener indeed according to user TempusFugitive_. "It's still very much an online shooter community in the sense of rampant toxicity and over reactions with every sign of change... But we have our moments." It seems toxic players will always be a part of Overwatch, but it is nice to revel over small victories like what happened to Ethan.
