This Feisty McLaren-Honda Racecar Could Win The Indy 500

After 38 years, McLaren will again compete at the Indianapolis 500. This time it will unleash its McLaren-Honda racecar. With Fernando Alonso at the wheels, many race car enthusiasts are predicting that it may bring home the 2017 Indy 500 crown. If that happens, that will be a great day for Honda as the racecar will use its engine.

The McLaren-Honda Race Car Will Be A Sole Entry

The McLaren-Honda Racecar will be the sole entry of the two carmakers for the Indy 500 which is scheduled on May 28, 2017. This event will be the 101st Indianapolis 500. Fernando Alonso is driving the race car presumably because he is the official formula 1 driver of the team. He started 275 Grand Prix and won 32 of them.

The Car Was Unveiled At Its Test Run

The McLaren-Honda Racecar was recently revealed at the same time that Alonso did a test run of the vehicle on the first testing day at the Indianapolis Speedway. The car was painted with McLaren's orange official color. This will be the first time Alonso will drive a race car in the Indy 500. He has never driven an Indy-type car before in his life, so this will be his first as well.

It Is Highly Probable That This Car Will Win

Being a Formula 1 driver, there is a likely possibility that Alonso will win this year's Indy 500. It has been done before by Alexander Rossi, also a Formula 1 driver. Rossi also competed in the Indianapolis 500 for the first time last year, and he went home with the 2016 Indy 500 crown. That's why eyes are now focused on Fernando Alonso driving the McLaren-Honda Racecar for it is highly probable that he too will win this year's Indy 500 race.

The Andretti Autosport team will run the McLaren-Honda Racecar, with Chief Executive Officer Michael Andretti heading the effort. It will use a Dallara DW 12 chassis, the same type used by the entire Verizon Indy Car series teams. Its engine is a Honda 2.2 liter, twin-turbo, V6 limited at 12,000 rpm.
