HTC Butterfly S launched: All you need to know

HTC has finally announced its much-rumored Butterfly S, the successor to the HTC Butterfly.

However, the smartphone will only be available for purchase "in select markets across Asia-Pacific" from next month.

"We've upgraded the popular HTC Butterfly to reflect the new standards set by the HTC One for smartphone performance. The HTC Butterfly changed the way people looked at a smartphone thanks to the world's first full HD 1080p, 5-inch screen and that complete viewing experience has been taken to the next level with HTC BlinkFeed. HTC BoomSound and HTC Zoe integration also make the experience of the HTC Butterfly S unlike that of any other 5-inch device," said Peter Chou, CEO of HTC Corporation.

HTC has not disclosed any plans for the Butterfly S' release in other regions, so those in Europe, Africa and the Middle East have a while to wait before they can lay their hands on the 5-inch smartphone.

The Butterfly S, like all next-gen variants, improves on its predecessor. The smartphone touts a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 Super LCD 3 display. Under the hood, it houses the quad-core Snapdragon 600 processor, clocked at 1.9GHz, which betters the speed of the flagship HTC One.

The Butterfly S also has 2GB of RAM and 16GB of on-board storage with the option to expand the memory further via a microSD card (up to 64GB). The smartphone also packs in a mammoth 3,200mAh battery, which betters the 2020mAh battery in the original Butterfly and the 2300mAh one on the HTC One.

The smartphone will run on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean and have HTC Sense 5. The top-end device will also feature the UltraPixel camera found on the HTC One, as well as a 2.1-megapixel secondary camera.

The HTC Butterfly S will hit the shelves in July and will be priced around the $765. It will be available in four colors: red, white, black and grey.
