'Futurama' is Coming to Hulu: New Cast, Number of Episodes, and Release Date

Hulu is reviving the sitcom series "Futurama." Fans might be happy to know that its incoming season would have 20 episodes. Sources say the series creators and cast members will stay the same except for one character.

"Futurama" notably features a long history of premieres and cancellations in the entertainment industry. According to Digitrends, "Futurama" first debuted in 1999 on Fox and eventually canceled after its fourth season in 2003. The series was revived in 2009 by 20th Century Fox as direct-to-video movies. Afterward, "Futurama" launched two seasons on "Comedy Central" and came to an end in 2013.

Now, after nearly a decade since its last cancellation, the series is finally coming back via Hulu stream TV.

'Futurama' Hulu Episodes: What to Expect

Hulu tweeted the exciting announcement on their social media page. Many fans immediately responded with excitement.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, series co-creator David X. Cohen said "it's a true honor to announce the triumphant return of Futurama one more time before we get canceled abruptly again." The creator emphasized this is another opportunity for them to "bring fans and viewers new episodes of Futurama."

For reference, "Futurama" follows the story of Philip J. Fry, a pizza delivery guy who accidentally freezes himself and wakes up 1000 years in the future. He ends up meeting a robot named Bender and a cyclops named Leela who quickly became his friends. Note that the show is an adult animated sci-fi comedy series.

Sources say that "Futurama" will only have 20 episodes on Hulu. The team is planning to enter production later this year, which implies a 2023 premiere.

'Futurama' Cast and Characters

Digitrends reports that "Futurama" will retain its original cast, featuring Billy West, David Herman, Katey Sagal, Lauren Tom, Maurice LaMarche, Phil LaMarr, and Tress MacNeille. Unfortunately for fans, one character is still missing from the list.

John DiMaggio, the voice behind the fan-favorite robot Bender, is still finalizing his deal with the production team. Both parties have yet to strike a deal, but many remain hopeful that he will join the cast. However, if DiMaggio refuses the contract, Bender will be recast.

Fans React to 'Futurama' TV Shows

Many fans are feeling distressed over DiMaggio's silence. They started tweeting encouragements and opinions about the incoming show. Twitter user Kate Miller tweets DiMaggio as "irreplaceable" to "Futurama."

One fan tweeted a GIF that "Futurama" is "not worth it" if DiMaggio is not involved.

Another fan commented DiMaggio is the only Bender for the series.

Twitter user Shane Fisher emphasized that DiMaggio is essential to "Futurama."

Sometime Feb 9, DiMaggio finally tweeted a response. He thanked the fans for their concern and promised to give out updates. Unfortunately, the comment did not confirm nor deny his contract for "Futurama."
