Garmin Releases the Upgraded Forerunner 255 and 955-With New Look and Racing Features

Garmin has released an updated version of its previous mid-range fitness trackers, the Forerunner 255 and Forerunner 955.

The announcement came just in time for Global Running Day. These specific models of the brand's watches have not been touched since 2019. However, it is now catching up packed with major features for users to fully enjoy.

Both watches will have multi-band GPS capabilities as well as new racing features, one of which is a race widget.

Garmin's Updated Release

Garmin's updated Forerunners, as reported by Engadget, will not miss out on the increasingly popular multi-band GPS features in multisport watches. Both watches will have this feature that will enable communication with multiple satellite frequencies and improve GPS accuracy, which is becoming an increasingly popular addition to multisport watches.

Users can expect improved accuracy despite poor signal in different environments. The watch also has a function known as the "morning report" built into it. The watch will provide a brief summary of the day's weather, a daily workout suggestion, and a report of the user's sleep from the previous night, along with workout suggestions, training status, recovery time, and HRV status.

Furthermore, both of the Forerunners will have a new racing widget and the capability to allow triathletes to more easily switch between sports with the press of a single button.

The race widget will feature information such as weather forecasts, performance predictions, and a countdown clock.

Garmin Forerunner 255

According to The Verge, the Forerunner 255 is a lightweight running watch and a predecessor to the Forerunner 245. This watch comes in three variations, the Forerunner 255, the Forerunner 255 Music, and the Forerunner 255S Music. The watches are water-resistant to 5ATM and have a 14-day battery life in GPS mode.

The Standard Forerunner 255 measures 46mm and weighs 49 grams; the 255S measures 41mm and weighs 32 grams.

The Forerunner 255 Music and 255S Music can hold up to 500 songs. This includes Spotify, Amazon Music, and Deezer. Music models are $50 more, at $399.99.

For users who have an active lifestyle, the features include daily workout advice, access to Garmin Coach, and in-depth analytics on the Garmin Connect app.

In addition, the features also include Garmin Pay, heart rate monitoring, and SpO2 sensors for body battery. This sensor allows the evaluation of sleep recovery and daytime stress. In addition, this also enables Garmin's safety features, including incident detection and live monitoring.

Garmin Forerunner 955

For the Forerunner 955, this model will be a full-color touchscreen running watch weighing at 52 grams. Just like the 255, this Forerunner also includes a multi-band GPS, morning reports, HRV status, training metric, readiness, race widget, and recovery time. In addition to the touch screen, the 955 has five physical buttons. Like the 255 series, it's 5ATM water resistant but has a longer battery life: 15 days in GPS mode.

Another variation of this watch is the Forerunner 955 Solar, which includes Garmin's Power Glass lens at $599.99. This device can also be charged through solar charging and can last up to 20 days. While it can run for up to 49 hours with GPS mode on.
