'Pokemon Scarlet and Violet' Trailer Drops: Release Date, Four-Person Co-Op, and More!

The Pokémon Company has announced that Pokémon Scarlet and Violet will be released on November 18, featuring a new open world structure, and four-player co-op for the first time.

The trailer promised a lot of the new mainline Pokémon game's world. It also introduced two new legendary monsters, Koraidon, who appears in Scarlet, and Miraodon, who appears in Violet, according to IGN Southeast Asia.

A description on the Pokémon website said: "These two Pokémon are said to have powers that far surpass those of other Pokémon but details about Koraidon and Miraidon are still shrouded in mystery."

'Scarlet' and 'Violet' are the Next Mainline Entries in 'Pokémon' series

Scarlet and Violet are the next mainline entries in Game Freak's enormously popular Pokémon series. It is also the first since 2019's Sword and Shield. This was first announced in February.

Pokémon took a different approach earlier this year with Pokémon Legends: Arceus, a prequel spin-off with action-adventure gameplay similar to Monster Hunter. But these latest versions seem to be a return to the typical classic Pokémon-training formula, according to Kotaku.

This means that you will find yourself in a small town where you will grapple to select a best friend from three adorable baby animals: Sprigatito, a grass-type kitten; Fuecoco, a fire-type sort of crocodile or dinosaur; and Quaxly, a water-type duck.

Then, you will watch as your best friend slowly become a formidable monster and then you will direct them to do battle against other monsters. Throughout the course of your adventure, you cobble together with a team of other terrifying creatures.

But new elements will be added with the two versions. Expect the two oddly grown-up-looking professors, Professor Sada and Professor Turo. Professors in Pokémon games serve as guides and mentors for the player, as what back to the days of Oak in the very first games have.

'Scarlet' and 'Violet' are First Ever Open World Pokémon

According to Kotaku, Scarlet and Violet are to be the first ever open-world Pokémon games in the franchise. This is with confirmation that players will be able to approach the game in their own order.

Pokémon Company said "you'll experience a world you're free to explore at your leisure-not in an order dictated by the story."

Moving away from the Japan-inspired worlds of the earlier entries, recent mainline Pokémon games have taken place in fictional realms based on regions like France and the United Kingdom. Thus, some fans believe Scarlet and Violet are inspired by Spain and Portugal.

It also appears that Scarlet and Violet will feature four-player co-op. The trailer wrapped with a pre-rendered cinematic panning over the two version-specific legendary Pokémon.

Scarlet and Violet are cornerstones of the Switch's stellar 2022 lineup. We will see a new release in Nintendo's long-dormant soccer series, Mario Strikers, next week.

Two weeks later, it will be followed by Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, a musou spin-off of Fire Emblem.

The month will also offer Xenoblade Chronicles 3. In September, Nintendo will unleash Splatoon 3, the latest entry in the most PG-rated of all the multiplayer shooters.
