Moto X may launch on Verizon on Aug. 23

Motorola has officially announced the much-awaited Moto X and now rumors suggest that the handset will launch on Verizon on Aug. 23.

Rumors pertaining to the Moto X were gaining traction for some time and on Aug. 1 Motorola launched the handset. At the smartphone's launch the company also announced that it will be available from all four major U.S. carriers. However, the exact release date for the Moto X remains unknown.

A recent Android Authority report suggests that the Verizon variant of the handset will start retailing from Aug. 23 onwards. This, however, is not the first time that rumors are emerging that the Moto X will launch on Verizon on Aug. 23.

"The Motorola Moto X will launch from Verizon on August 23rd. From what we know about the phone, those ordering it online will be able to pick a color for the back cover and another color for the trim. The phone can also be engraved on the back. However, if you go into a retailer to buy the phone, you will have to buy a standardized version in black," reads a previous report from Phone Arena, which claims to have received the roadmap from an anonymous tipster.

On the other hand, the same Phone Arena report also suggested that the Verizon version of the HTC One will launch on Aug. 1. The date has lapsed but the HTC One has not appeared on the carrier.

Many smartphone customers have been eagerly waiting for the Moto X as the handset can be customized. In the U.S., the customizable Moto X will be available only via AT&T, at least at first.

"People want choice. The choice to design their own phones. The choice to control their phones by voice when their hands are occupied. The choice to have their phones assembled in America," Motorola touted.

The smartphone space is getting flooded with many smartphones on offer. As such, the Moto X may find stiff competition in the smartphone arena with the presence of Samsung Galaxy S4, HTC One, Nokia Lumia 1020 and more.
