Netflix, Nippon TV Deal Brings ‘Hunter X Hunter,’ ‘Claymore,’ More Anime to the Platform

Netflix will soon feature new anime for its subscribers to watch on the platform.

The streaming platform has recently inked a new licensing deal with Nippon TV to bring 13 anime series to its platform in September non exclusively.

Nippon TV is one of Japan's leading multiplatform entertainment powerhouse and ratings champion broadcasters and is based in the Shiodome area of Minato in the city of Tokyo, Japan, per the company's corporate data

Netflix-Nippon TV New Licensing Deal Details

According to Nippon TV's statement on the licensing deal, Netflix will soon be able to stream to its subscribers 13 of the company's most popular anime titles non-exclusively worldwide. 

Akane Inoue, Nippon TV's officer for Anime sales and licensing in its International Business Development department, said that the company has no doubt anime fans worldwide will be talking about the titles that are involved with the licensing deal.

"... we are truly honored to be announcing this new deal with Netflix for some of our most beloved anime series in our catalog. Inoue said. "For many years, anime has been a driving force at Nippon TC where we have been producing hit anime titles... and many more."

He also mentioned that the timing of Netflix's licensing deal with the company "could not have been better" as the popularity of anime is surging in popularity continuously.

Thanks to the licensing deal, Netflix subscribers can stream "HUNTER X HUNTER," on Sept. 1 alongside "Ouran High School Host Club" and "Claymore."

In addition to these three anime, Netflix subscribers can look forward to watching "DEATH NOTE's" 37 episodes and its two OVAs, "DEATH NOTE: RELIGHT 1," "DEATH NOTE: RELIGHT 2." 

Additionally, Netflix subscribers will soon be able to watch "BERSERK's" 25 episodes, "Parasyte -the maxim- ," and the two seasons of "From Me to You" as well.

Finally, "NANA," "Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting!," and "MONSTER" will be available for Netflix subscribers to stream on the platform.

Anime Availability

Although Nippon TV's lineup is certainly exciting, there are some limitations. Gamespot reported that some of the previously mentioned series would have a more limited rollout geographically. 

One such series is "HUNTER XHUNTER," whose first 38 episodes will be available in 104 countries including Spain, Italy, Finland, Turkey, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates during the licensed period. 

Fortunately, the majority of these shows will stream in over 100 countries during the licensing period.

Anime On Netflix

Anime has become an integral part of Netflix's services, with the streaming platform providing its subscribers with around 700 anime series to watch to date, per a Just Watch filtered search

These anime series include some of the most popular ones, such as "Attack on Titan," "One-Punch man," "Violet Evergarden," and "Cowboy Bebop," per Busuu

The company even has exclusive anime to feature, both exclusively-licensed and original series. These include "Dota: Dragon's Blood," "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners," and "Dragon's Dogma."
