Apple to Launch watchOS 10 with 'Notable Changes' for Apple Watch UI

For the past few years, Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) has introduced minor iterative updates to the watchOS, although they were not considered to be among the highlights of the event. That is going to change this year, as per the latest report, as the watchOS 10 is expected to introduce big changes to the Apple Watch experience, specifically to the device's user interface.

Big Changes in watchOS 10 to Compensate for This Year's Lackluster Apple Watch Upgrade

Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said in the latest update in his Power On newsletter that the new watchOS 10 will catch the public's attention with its major upgrades from the previous watchOS version. The unveiling of watchOS 10 will take place on June 5 at the WWDC stage, which will also serve as the venue for the iOS 17 launch, as well as the highly anticipated mixed-reality headset from Apple.

As per 9to5Mac, Apple Watch followers had nothing much to look forward to from the previous WWDC, given that there had been no exciting changes or new features from its operating system. The recent watchOS updates have only been about iterative improvements, although new watch faces have been made available.

According to Gurman, WWDC 2023 will change everything that involves the watchOS as the next major software update will go all-out with exciting big improvements. Although, Gurman also claims that the watchOS 10 announcement will easily overshadow the unveiling in the hardware department. He reported that only minor tweaks can be expected from the 2023 Apple Watch.

"I believe the new watchOS should be a fairly extensive upgrade - with notable changes to the user interface - unlike iOS 17. It's important for watchOS to have a big year given that the Apple Watch hardware updates will be anything but major," Gurman said.

Topping last year's Apple Watch Ultra will be a difficult task, as per Phone Arena, so this year's hardware update might be quite underwhelming for Apple Watch fans. The next big update for the Apple Watch is expected to happen next year with Series 10.

It should be noted that the watchOS 10 release will happen sometime in September, but the public will have a first glimpse of its new look and features at WWDC.

What to Expect From the Apple Watch Series 10

For now, it looks like everything exciting about the upcoming Apple Watch lineup will come from the new and improved watchOS 10. Those who are looking for interesting hardware updates should wait until next year for the Apple Watch Series 10.

Nothing is confirmed about the Series 10, but tech enthusiasts speculate that the next generation of Apple's wearable gear will be similar to the groundbreaking iPhone X launch in 2017. For one, the device could also be named the Apple Watch Series X.

The 2024 Apple Watch is rumored to boast two display size variants, a 1.89-inch and a 2.04-inch. The current Apple Watch sizes are 1.7 inches and 1.9 inches. Next year could also highlight the next generation of Apple Watch Ultra will a larger 2.1-inch micro-LED display.
