Evident Character Development

"My Happy Marriage" follows the story of abused Miyo Saimori and her engagement to the seemingly cold soldier Kiyoka Kyokudo. In their timeline, marriages are determined by the family's bloodline power. Kiyoka is known for his pyrokinesis while Miyo lived her life thinking she had no powers.

Although Kiyoka seemed indifferent to Miyo, he gradually managed to open up emotionally to her after learning about her past. Meanwhile, Miyo worked on ways to embrace her new life and overcome her insecurities.

Unique Storyline

The anime breaks away from the usual shoujo romance type of series that we often see. From the beginning, the introduction of supernatural powers set in the Meiji Restoration Era of Japan made it more intriguing to viewers.

Moreover, the series managed to focus on the concept of powers within the bloodline without making it boring. The show was able to portray a unique blend of genres, providing a fresh narrative to the viewers.

Impressive Animation and Artistic Style

One of the most dominant features of the show is its attention to detail when it comes to its artistic style. Despite its supernatural concept, "My Happy Marriage" leans on softer and expressive designs.

The animation style of the characters also emphasizes fluid movements. Most importantly, the show was able to portray the Meiji Restoration era, giving it a more realistic alternate interpretation.

Emotional Scenes

Despite coming from a powerful family, Miyo lived her life as a servant due to her lack of gift. Her mother's death when she was just a kid became the start of her nightmare under the hands of her father, stepmother, and her spirit-seeker sister.

During the series, we were able to see how abused Miyo was, it all helped the viewers understand why she acted very submissive and insecure when she first met Kiyoko. Despite that, both protagonists managed to portray how their romance blossomed as the series progressed.

Tackles Lessons in Life

Many fans were able to relate their own personal struggle with the anime. "My Happy Marriage" is known for diving into the themes of acceptance, love, and self-discovery, which every viewer can relate to.

From Miyo's journey to find her place in society to Kiyoka's struggle to overcome his past, all made them very relatable despite being fictional characters. Most importantly, the first season ended on a cliffhanger as both characters have just begun discovering new things about themselves, making it hard for fans to wait until 2025.
