The Pokemon Company Promises Supply of Rare Pikachu Card

Following the end of the event, Pokebeach, the official distributor of Pokemon TCG, Asmodee, reported that the company contacted hobby stores and informed them that they would be receiving 10 cards per store of the rare Pikachu card.

In a follow-up statement, Pokebeach disclosed that The Pokemon Company has promised to restock the card in large chain stores in the Netherlands. The special promotion will require customers to spend €29.99 or more on TCG products to receive a copy of the Pikachu Van Gogh card.

The promotion will be offered on Bruna, Game Mania, Intertoys, Media Markt, Primera, Top1Toys, and Smyths Toys Superstores.

"We can also confirm this new promotion is not simply 'leftover' stock, but a brand new print run. It seems TPCi learned from last year's blunder and is taking corrective action to appease its fans," Pokebeach announced.

The Pokemon Company Aims to Lower Scalped Price

During the event, the Pikachu with a Grey Felt Hat was the most popular card at the event. However, the museum was forced to remove the promo cards due to reports of scalping and to avoid further controversy.

Meanwhile, scalpers who were able to get their hands on the card created online auctions for interested fans. Some copies have reportedly sold for over $600 by the end of 2023.

Pokebeach speculated that the decision to restock the card is to help lower the price of the scalped Pikachu card. In some eBay listings, the card is sold for $200.

Previously, the Van Gogh Museum fired some of its employees due to misconduct during the event, wherein employees managed to steal a box of exclusive Pokemon cards and gave out ticket information to other people.
