‘Pokemon Go’ Update: FastPokeMap – Most Popular Pokemon Tracker, Awaiting Niantic Ban?

Pokemon Go players are relying on third party Pokemon tracker such as FastPokeMap. This hugely popular app has so far escaped Niantic's axe.

FastPokeMap Usage Statistics

FastPokeMap lead developer whitelist_ip recently posted in Reddit that the third party Pokemon tracker was visited more than 10 million times every day. Three out of ten of them were first time visitors. PokeVision however, was able to get 11 million unique visitors during its heyday.

FastPokeMap Expansion And Bandwidth Concerns

FastPokeMap is rapidly gaining popularity among Pokemon Go users that developers beefed up their server capacity. The tracker's radius also increased to maximum of 200 meters. Cloud providers were also removed from the third party Pokemon Go tracker to save on bandwidth costs.

FastPokeMap - Popular But Controversial

Some time ago, Niantic banned a Belgian ISP for hosting third party Pokemon Go trackers. FastPokeMap was allegedly the app targeted. The FastPokeMap developer complained that his tracker was unfairly targeted but did not elaborate on the matter further.

How FastPokeMap Escape Niantic Ban

Niantic recently banned most third party Pokemon Go trackers including PokeVision. FastPokeMap has so far escaped the ban despite its immense popularity. One possible reason why it's still operating is the fact that it's a closed source program. The FPM developer boasted that not a single Pokemon Go account using his app was banned compared to those who use open source Pokemon Go trackers.

Niantic May Still Ban FastPokeMap

Niantic CEO John Hanke reportedly is not too fond of third party Pokemon Go apps. This is evident by their zeal in banning such apps. However, FPM is a far more reliant tracker than the one available in the game. But such views matters little to Niantic. Sooner or later the Pokemon Go developer may find a way to ban FPM from the game.
