'Westworld' In Talks For Season 2; Thandie Newton Says It's Liberating To Portray Maeve Millay

Sci-fi thriller series, “Westworld” is reportedly being planned for the second season as producers of the show reveal reasons behind the news. Meanwhile, Thandie Newton has admitted that it has been liberating portraying the role of Maeve Millay in the said series.

The popular science fiction series, “Westworld’ is facing a bright future as reports say the series will most likely be renewed for a second season. The series have debuted on HBO last Oct. 2 and attained the highest viewership ratings for a premiere. The series has been greatly received that fans have been wondering news of “Westworld” Season 2 and maybe even more installments.

HBO’s president of programming, Casey Bloys went on an interview with Variety and said, “I want to get a very complete picture of the ratings, which seem to be doing very well, so we’re happy with that. [The executive producers are] going to talk to us about what they envision a second season being. But right now I would say it’s looking really good. We’re very pleased with how it’s doing.”

Meanwhile, Thandie Newton has been portraying her onscreen persona, Maeve, so well that she has been gaining recognition for it. The latest episode of “Westworld” Season 1 features Maeve in a revolutionary moment as she begins to question her identity. Newton has expressed just how much she adored her character that she began to understand her character’s point of view.

“What I loved about Maeve is that I felt that I was playing her awakening and it was paralleling in my own that I had as I became an adult and started to ask questions about my programming. I think we’re all programmed and we’re all living in a degree of virtual reality,” Newton said in an interview with “CBS This Morning”.

She also voiced out that “Westworld” has been successful so far because it attracts viewers to a world of fantasy yet is not unimaginable. She says “Westworld” is a place where people really get to understand the appetite of people’s vices. Newton has also tackled the topic on the number of nude scenes in the series and she admitted that it actually felt liberating and more empowering to shoot undressed.

“Westworld” continues to maintain millions of viewers per episode that “Westworld” Season 2 is not far from happening. With just five episodes released, the series has already won an award and has been nominated for more. “Westworld” Season 1 Episode 7 titled, “Trompe L’Oeil” is set to air this Nov. 13 on HBO.
