How Super Mario Run Fail To Retain Highest Grossing App Title

Super Mario Run has been out on the market for several weeks now and surprisingly, it gathered a massive number of downloads during the earlier phase of its release. The newest game title from Nintendo had set the download records in the App Store and generated a $14 million income within its first three days. Judging by the outcome it shows that the game has really become an instant hit. Recently, however, it seems like Super Mario Run has somehow lost its momentum when it comes to its generated revenue.

According to the report from Bloomberg, Super Mario Run is no longer at the top game in any country as it loses its spot as the highest grossing app on the App Store. However, the title is still performing well when it comes to downloads. Super Mario Run is still the top downloaded mobile game in 68 countries, though that has been down from the previous 138 during its peak on December 17.

Game Rant mentions that even though the game is being downloaded, the number of people who are willing to buy the $10 price tag of the game are decreasing. As previously reported, players needed to purchase the full game in order to unlock the remaining levels. Meanwhile, it seems like the Friendly Run Mode which debuted last week failed to translate downloads into sales. To note, Super Mario Run iOS version has been downloaded more than 40 million times.

With the current drop on the sales, Nintendo's stocks has been downed by 1.5 percent. The company's shares have been unstable this month as it falls up to 18 percent since December 12 due to Super Mario Run's negative reviews and doubts regarding Nintendo's ability to develop a decent mobile game.

Meanwhile, the $10 price tag of the game seems to be hurdling the company. Some said that it is fairly high price for a mobile game and locking the contents behind a paywall seemed to have turned off players. On the other hand, Nintendo has now released a survey for their fans suggesting a price cut and a possible sequel of the mobile game.
