First Selfie In Britain Is A 4,000-Year-Old Carving

Today selfies aren't unusual. With smartphones and tablets, having a selfie has become common. While selfies might be more common now, there had been selfies in the past. One of the earliest is the first selfie in Britain which is a 4,000 year old carving.

The discovery has been made by Gordon Holmes. The carving has been made on a rock in Yorkshire. The carving is of a stick figure of a person and what Holmes has said to be a speech bubble above his head. Above the figure is the constellation of Cassiopeia.

In Greek mythology Cassiopeia is a vain queen who bragged much about her looks. Holmes has said that the carving is possibly the earliest known selfie in Britain. He has also mentioned that there are more ancient examples of what could be termed as selfies, such as the hieroglyphics in Egypt.

The carving has been found in one of the moors in Britain. The moors have been regarded as a mysterious and spooky place, and Holmes believes that there could be more such carvings waiting to be discovered there. Holmes is now studying such carvings after retiring as an IT technician, according to Fox News.

Holmes has pointed out that there are other carvings that could be found in Baildon Moor where the ancient selfie is. The carvings show the landscape under a night sky. Ancient carvings representing the stars and other celestial objects typically have religious significance, though much of it have yet to be discerned by Archeologists.

The other Baildon Moor carvings are likely made by the same artist which made the selfie carving, as observed by Holmes. Other moors such as Illkley and Rivock Edge also have carvings that show the night sky, as Hoholok reports. Britain is also home to many other ancient mysterious carvings and symbols that are still being studied by Archeologists and other scientists.

While the selfie phenomenon might be popular today, it isn't really new. The first selfie in Britain is a 4,000 year old carving. A study has also revealed that the first humans in North America have arrived much earlier.
