Starcraft 2: Wings Of Liberty To Be Released By Blizzard For Free?

Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty is almost seven years old and it may just be the perfect time for Blizzard to make the first expansion of the SC2 to go free, isn't it? Well, the interesting news is that, a number of players have reported that they have gained access to the game entirely for free! Is Blizzard about to make Wings of Liberty free-to-play?

Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty Free Copy

A number of players have reported that their Battle.net accounts suddenly gained a free copy of Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty without any knowledge of direct purchase of the game. As of the time of this writing, there are currently five threads that show different Battle.net accounts getting Wings of Liberty entirely for free.

Is this a Bug?

According to the players that have received free copies of the game, the items came to their Battle.net account with a message saying: "You have been granted a free game." The game they're referring to is the first expansion of Starcraft 2: Wings of Liberty. So if this isn't a bug and that Blizzard is intending to giveaway free copies of Wings of Liberty, how can players get their own free Wings of Liberty?

In the comments section of the thread, some players also stated that they weren't able to get their hands on the free copy of the game. Does this mean that there are certain requirements to qualify for the giveaway? According to the main thread, there isn't and that it's randomly picked by Blizzard. This information, however, remains unconfirmed until Blizzard will make any official announcement about the expansion going free-to-play.

Nonetheless, it's exciting to hear that Blizzard may hopefully make Starcraft 2 free-to-play as it'll definitely improve the community of the RTS game. With the decline of the game's competitive scene in Korea, it's definitely nigh time for Blizzard to open the game in a much broader audience.
