Eddy Cue Confirms Apple Isn't Interested In Buying Netflix

Many people believe that Apple should definitely buy Netflix. In their opinion, this could further help Apple grow beyond its "iPhone success," which is still a massive growth factor on Apple's record share prices. However, Apple seems not to be that interested in buying Netflix.

Apple Doesn't Want To Buy A Content Company

On an interview at the Code Conference, Eddy Cue, Apple's Senior Vice President of Internet Software and Service, said that though it might be a much better idea to buy somebody or doing that, it is simply not, what Apple is trying to do. What the company wants to do is something that is totally unique, takes advantage of its own platform and also brings culture to it. And apparently, the company sees no other way in achieving that goal except partnering with people like Ben Silverman.

Cue also mentioned about two upcoming Apple shows, which include the "Carpool Karaoke" and the "Planet of the Apps." With these shows, Apple plans to compete directly against Netflix when it comes to original content.

About The Planet Of The Apps

According to the report, the "Planet of the Apps" is somewhat a combination of the "American Idol" and "Shark Tank." In the show, developers will only have 60 seconds to pitch apps to advisors and convince them to train them before going to larger investors. As for the viewer, they will get the chance to test the said apps.

Silverman then added that it will definitely have a linear component that viewers can typically watch. However, there will also be a lot of things that they shoot, which don't end up on air in a linear format. But in case viewers want to delve in deeper on a developer or a particular thing that is happening on the show, it can be done.

Finally, Cue then said that this might probably be the best way of making streaming TV shows great again. However, he would also binge on quite a few original Netflix shows before giving "Planet of the Apps" a trial.
