Sprint's Samsung Galaxy S4 Getting OTA Update Now

Sprint's variant of the Galaxy S4 hit the shelves over the weekend and those of you who purchased the smartphone will be delighted to learn that it is now getting an over-the-air (OTA) software update.

This is not the rumored Android 4.3 update but a minor one and no official changelog for the update is currently available. The update has the build L720VPUAMDL and is 24MB. It is not yet known what issues this update fixes and the improvements it brings. In all probability, the OTA update for the Sprint Galaxy S4 covers a few last minute things that needed fixing.

"If you were lucky enough to pick up a Sprint Galaxy S4 over the weekend, you'll want to start checking for a system update. Build L720VPUAMDL is pushing out, checking in at about 24MB. A scouring of the Internet doesn't seem to tell us anything about this update or what it addresses, so your guess is as good as ours. We assume it's a standard last-minute patch that we see with many new devices, and won't bring any new functionality or make any big changes," reports Android Central.

The software update for the Sprint variant of the Galaxy S4 is being pushed out in phases and it may be a while before your device receives the same so be patient.

Interestingly, the original version of the software on the Galaxy S4 is L720VPUAMDC. This means that the only difference between the old software version and the new one is that the last letter has been changed from a "C" to "L".

Speculations suggest that the new update has flipped the LTE radio inside the Galaxy S4, which was previously set up to work only on Cellular. To check if your Galaxy S4 has received the OTA software update go to Settings>More> System Update.
