The Galaxy S4 may have just recently come out, but it's just one of many new devices that Samsung is prepping for release this year. The Samsung Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3 are both in the pipeline, too, but their release dates may be slipping a little further away.
When Samsung officially unveiled the new phablet phones, it said that the Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3 would launch globally sometime in May. That's not very clear, but with Europe and Russia following after, one can presume that the company meant the United States would see the phones first.
As we pass mid-May, however, that possibility looks less likely. If the online retailer Carphone Warehouse (via Android Authority) is to be believed, we might not be seeing the new Galaxy Mega 6.3 for a couple of months. The website recently updated its listings, and it displays an expected release date of July 2012.
The website GSM Helpdesk also suggests a delay, though its timeframes are a bit different. According to this site, the Galaxy Mega 6.8 should arrive around June 3, while the Galaxy Mega 5.8 won't land until July 22.
Samsung itself has yet to comment on any of this, so it's not official that a delay is imminent. However, it has to be concerning that, as of May 17, the company has yet to announce a U.S. release date for a phone it intends to launch globally the same month.
The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3, as the name implies, sports a 6.3-inch screen, a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and either 8GB or 16GB of storage space. It also boasts an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera, and comes packing Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.
The Galaxy Mega 5.8, meanwhile, has a 5.8-inch screen, a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, 8GB of internal memory, 1.5GB of RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera, and a 1.9-megapixel front-facing camera. Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean also comes out of the box.
As you can see, the phablets are extremely similar, and they're both huge. It'll be interesting to see how these two phones do with the Note 3 also on the way.
